A little help ladies?

My husband and i have been married for 2.5 years and he is soooo stingy with compliments! I honestly dont understand it. Ive confronted him about it numerous times, and he sometimes gets it, but i dnt get why its so difficult to dish out compliments!  It makes me feel so insecure and like im wasting my time making an effort for him! Ive told him this too, and ive also straight up asked tht if my efforts really dont matter then tell me n ill stop wasting my time. He said thts not it and tht he does appreciate everything i do, he just doesnt always actively voice it. But i just feel so unappreciated by it...a while back i actually stopped makig an effort..i wud be in my sweats n stuff when he got home from work and id barely put on makeup or anything. THAT he noticed and of course commented on...i was soooo irritated! 

Can someone please shed some light on this? 

Also, he doesnt even comment on sexy lingerie! I mean i dont expect a comment every single time bt if im wearing something new then am i crazy for expecting a vocal response?!

I wore something new for him last night and was super xcited abt it..bt he literally didnt say a word about it! Because of that i felt soooo self-conscious and distracted during sex! I did discuss it with him later about how it makes me feel unattractive..bt he said that it isnt anything like that. His explanation was that giving compliments doesnt come naturally to him! What should i do??

I thrive on compliments and affirmative words of love and appreciation! :(
