FWB... HEELLPP!?!

In July I reconnected with a guy I've known for awhile. We started off as really good friends and now we are friends with benefits. The issue now is we both want to be more than friends but we both have been through sooo much we are too scared to actually take that step to turn FWB into an actual relationship. Like, I have legit feelings for him. Honestly I had no idea what I wanted in a guy until we started hanging out and he showed me his true self, he is the most amazing guy and I don't want him to slip throw my fingers. What do I do??
