am I old fashioned

My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment about four months ago. I feel like we are more like roommates when it comes down to finances. I basically have to buy my own groceries and put in my end of the rent. With my paycheck I have to pay my college pay rent pay my phone pay my car and pay my groceries. With his paycheck he still supports his ex-wife and he pays his child support but he struggles to pay his end of the rent. Last month I paid his phone bill (which was $400 that I didn't have and had to barrow). Should I say something to him or am I being selfish for wanting him to help out more around our place now. He makes five time more then I do.
