Will living apart help us or kill us?

My man and I recently stopped living together because we already lived with two other couple's and we just needed to focus on our careers first before taking any more steps towards marriage. Of course things are a little weird but we do still talk and obviously care for each other. I know this could probably end up making us totally separate but it was cramped living in that place and I couldn't get out and get a job or do anything living there so now I'm with my sister temporarily and idk if it'll be harder or easier in the long run. Obviously I'd rather someone with something positive to say to comment but if you personally had an experience similar, how'd that go?
