wrong dates?

Went to EPU for my scan yesterday and was told that I'm not 10 weeks like I thought. I'm actually 5 weeks. They said it was too early to see/hear a heartbeat. I have an appointment to return to EPU for another scan on Friday. I got told that if the baby hasn't progressed then I am definitely having a miscarriage. I just don't get how my dates could be wrong. My last period was around about the 16th August. I had been on the pill for 14 years and wonder if that could of made me ovulate later than I thought? I'm currently still cramping and bleeding. It started Monday night and I thought it would be over by now. I don't think it is a very good sign although I am trying to stay positive. Has anyone else been through this before?

When I went in I should have been 8w and some odd days according to LMP, they measured me at 6w1d. I'm now almost 31 weeks pregnant. I ovulated a few days before AF was due. Going off the pill could have effected when you ovulated, but 5w is a huge difference.

My experience with this wasn't a good one... I went in at 9 weeks 5 days for an ultrasound no heartbeat and baby was measuring 7 weeks 3 days which in some cases is normal it was only a little more than two weeks off and I figured I ovulated late we were brought back a week later for another ultrasound and baby still measured 7 weeks 3 days baby had just stopped growing at that time and I didn't misscarry until another week later at 11 weeks, I bled for about a week had the actual miscarriage on the second day of bleeding. I kept my hopes up the entire time but sadly it just didn't work out. Hoping your story is different maybe get a second opinion.
