I'm so confused..plz help

So last week my doc told me my baby has more fluid around him than most babies..and it is the cause of me having so much pain in my belly ( my belly was rock hard and painful for a week). She basically said she thinks he is coming early because it is uncomfortable for him. She also said to time my contractions and be on the lookout for labor..well there is where my issue lies..I can't tell the difference between a contraction ( which he plays thru) and him causing my stomach to tense up. Should I time both or what?? I have a high tolerance for pain so non of it hurts me..it's all just very uncomfortable..I don't want to not be paying attention to a real contraction because he is playing around in there. Please..someone help..I've tried google and advice from my mother but she just keeps saying this is apart of pregnancy..she is so confusing lol
