Refuse to eat any baby food

When my little one first turned 5 months we tried giving him baby food because he would always reach like he want our food, make chewing motions and just show interest in what we was eating. But he would always spit any baby food out so we thought he just wasn't ready until his dad gave him some regular table food and he ate it up. Needless to say my pediatrician was not pleased and neither was the nutritionist who insist we try to get him to eat baby food. But he won't eat it. Anybody else have this problem? He is 6 months now.
