When to meet the dogs?

Question

Hey guys! For those of you with dogs when will you or have you decide to introduce the baby to them? I have two, a gentle giant and a feisty lil one...they're both good around kids (though I still would never leave them with her unattended) .

Just wondering what worked for those that do have animals. Dogs especially.

I'm not due till January so there is a little bit of time!

The day we came home from the hospital.
Our house sitter brought home a hat the baby had been wearing so the animals would have her smell.
But once we got home we let our 2 meet the baby. They love her!

As soon as we came home from the hospital I put my son on the floor in his car seat and let our dog smell him and get used to him. They were inseparable until the day our pup passed.

First thing we are doing when we walk in the door for the first time is to introduce the pets to the baby.

Keeping them separated and yelling at the pets for getting near the baby breeds fear and anger towards the baby from the pets sometimes.

It's all about supervision. Am I going to leave my baby on the floor at 1 week with my hyper husky? Of course not. But am I going to start screaming if the cat jumps up on the couch next to me and starts sniffing the baby? Of course not again. The sooner they know what baby is, and that it isn't a threat the better.

I haven't delivered yet but have been doing tons of research since our dog loves people but has a few quirks. We're planning on bringing a blanket or something the baby was in to get her used to the scent. Then when we come home, we'll make sure she's been taken on a long walk before we get there. Then my husband will have the baby and I'll go in first since she won't have seen me in so long and will probably freak out. Then once she calms down, we'll introduce her to the baby. Here's to hoping all goes well!

My hubby will be bringing home a blanket ours is wrapped in in the hospital so they get used to the scent then when we come home our plan is to let them meet the baby one at a time

I would say it depends on the dog. But it's kind of hard to hide a baby from them and the longer it takes for them to meet her the more  excited and energetic they're going to get about it so i would think the sooner the better. One of mine was an outside dog when we had the baby, and the other we didnt get until she was 6 months old so we never really went through introductions with a newborn.
