Hypocrites everywhere

So the post regarding paid maternity leave had comments saying "don't compare child birth to cancer. Having children is a choice cancer is not." All I could think about the entire time was the connection people make for drug addicts that get their hands held for help and addiction is called a "disease" which would put it in the same category as cancer 🤔 but drugs are a choice (yes, yes they are. You aren't addicted before doing them so doing them for the first time was a choice.) I know addicts with food stamps, cash assistance, medical assistance etc. and we just want a few extra weeks with our babies.
Do you see where I'm getting at? I fully agree drug addiction is due to mental illness but is not a disease itself. Mental illness is the disease and needs stigmas and shame removed so people can be helped. But if addiction and cancer are in the same group... when people are trying to make valid points and comparisons think outside the box and stop taking things so literally.
We don't want paid "for having children" we want to be able to keep our homes and food on the table while we bond with our newborns for longer than 6 weeks when our vaginas or csection incisions are healed. 🙄
Edit: Cancer is a disease so if people claim drug addiction is a disease they are grouping them into the same category. (Not flawed)
