How do you refer to your daughter's privates?

Sorry, I know this is a weird question, but bear with me.

For me, my mom called it a "pee pee". This went for me and my brother. Then around 10 or 11 started incorrectly referring to my vulva as my vagina, like all my friends did.

I was reading an article about kids sexuality and it advised parents to refer to their kids' parts as a "penis" or "vulva". This helps them understand what parts they have and how to talk to a partner or doctor about any issue. It also mentioned that it's good to use the unique name for the part, rather than a gender neutral term.

Well, I'm on board with "penis". My stepson calls his a penis or sometimes a weiner, which I feel will give him the language to talk to either a doctor or his buddies or future partner. But vulva? It sounds so medical to me, is it just because I've never called it a vulva? If I start that up and teach it to my daughter, will her friends not know what she's talking about when she gets to middle school?
