"When you have kids_______!"
How do you respond when people say this (really insensitive, condescending, know-it-all) blanket statement about seemingly everything when you've been TTC for a long time & you know it just might never happen? Every time someone says this to me, I get irrationally angry & hurt. Even though I know it's unintended, it always feels like they're saying, "You're SO clueless!" I just never know what to say.
Examples (from just the last week!!!):
Me: Yes, I did have a nice day off. It was so great to sleep in a little!
Them: Enjoy it now, when you have kids, you won't have that luxury!
Me: DH & I had a really nice date night dinner last weekend, we tried a new restaurant.
Them: When you have kids, that'll never happen anymore!
Them: Cute new purse!
Me: Thanks, I just treated myself because I needed a pick-me-up that didn't include extra calories!
Them: You know when you have kids, you won't splurge on yourself like that.
