gunk?

My baby is 8 days old and there is some kind of gunk that keeps crusting over or goo-ing over on his left eye. What could this be and what do I do?? I just have been cleaning it with warm water

Let one -two drops of your breastmilk fall in his eye at every other feeding for a couple of days and it usual clears it up since your BM is full of antibodies.

Always wipe from the nose side to the outside and use a new wipe/ cotton ball each wipe. use breastmilk if you can

Probably blocked tear duct. Totally normal. You can wipe it with a warm cloth & gently massage it.

If it's a dry crust it's just a blocked tear duct. When they get infected the stuff gets kinda gooey. Your kids doctor can give you an ointment for that. Eventually the duct is supposed to unblock itself but by LO is at six months and I'm still waiting for it to fully happen. Doctor told me to massage the corner of his eye a bit everyday to help it along.

not 2 sure if u can see it, but that is my LO's eye. at first I thought it was a clogged tear doct but when I took him in they said he had an eye infection & gave me some ointment for it. it got pretty nasty 😕

Sounds like a blocked tear duct. Very common and can persist until they're 9 months old.

Warm washcloth and you can gently massage the inside corner of the eye to help unblock it.

My son had a block from about 1 week through 2 1/2 months. Thought it was an infection initially. Sometimes it can get so bad their eye will crust shut.

If it keeps up let your pediatrician know just in case there an infection so they can give you antibiotic ointment.

Tell your pediatriciation, my daughter had this and we were given eye drops to put in her eyes 2x a day and it cleared up in two weeks or less.

My daughter was the same and her doctor had to give us special eye drops bc it won't heal cleaning it only. It was conjunctivitis... I would go and consult him/her about it.
