Blocked tear duct

So my lo has a blocked tear duct in one eye. The Dr said to massage it daily, and gave us eye drops to prevent infection, and said it usually clears up on its own at about 9 months. Well, she has a red spot on the outside of her eye, from it constantly watering, and from us constantly cleaning it.

I'm trying to find out if there's anything that I can put on her face (just on the outside of her eye) as a skin protectant. Has anyone experienced this? Any tips?
