First cervical screening!

Christine
This is my first post to the lovely Glow community. I'm aware most of you are probably from the US, but I'm from the UK and today I had my dreaded smear test. I just want to share my experience and see how everyone else has found it and spread  awareness that getting it done is not as bad as you think. 😊
I had a letter a post a few months ago asking me to book my first test as I'd recently turned 25 this year. Naturally I was nervous and putting off booking it, but I got it sorted.
Did anyone else have that awful feeling that when they originally booked it that AF would make an early appearance?
I definitely thought so and didn't want to have to reschedule. But my cycle has been all over the place since I got my expired implant removed a while ago. So I had a 4 week long period, nothing for about 2 weeks and then had another one 1 week more. So when it came to the test today I'd been off for about 10 days. I didn't realise when you oringally book it should be between cycles so I got very lucky! I was quite nervous but my nurse was very friendly, chatty and comfortable so she put me at ease straight away. She explained the process before I then got undressed which was a bit awkward and then laying on the bed trying to get into position! But she told me how wide to open my legs and explained the sensation I was about to experience. Boy was she right! The speculum was quite tight and I did tense up but I told myself to breath and relax and she then took the brush, found the cervix, sweeped a few times and that was it. It was over within a few mins. I should get the result within 2 weeks to be told whether everything is normal or abnormal.
So if TL/DR please go for your smear tests, it is uncomfortable at first but over quickly and a necessity to detect if something is wrong in your cervix. 😊
