is it just me or are vets the only concern many have?

So don't get me wrong, I 100% support caring for our (as in US) veterans as much as anyone, my older brother is a veteran who served four tours overseas, in Iraq and Afghanistan. I want veterans to get the help they need when they return home, I don't want any to go hungry, homeless or without healthcare (ESPECIALLY mental healthcare). BUT, I feel like I never hear anyone concerned about other homeless, starving people in the US, especially not children. To be a first world country we have an astronomical amount of children who do without, and go hungry. The only thing I ever hear *most* republicans talk about is making sure vets aren't hungry. But they're adults, so I feel like children should be more of a priority. Thoughts?

Definitely both are important and both need to addressed. The thing with veterans is that these are people who have served our country and sometimes come back with serious mental illnesses or physical disabilities and are then left to figure it out themselves. Suicide rates are ridiculously high for veterans.

I feel like so many people think you can't care about, and take care of, more than one problem at a time. Like yeah, vets need better care. But so does everyone with mental health issues, the homeless, and yes even refugees.

We owe everything to our vets so I think they should be a huge priority. I don't want children to starve and at least near me schools provide two meals a day to children in need.

You do realize a good portion of the homeless are military vets?

I think it's a ploy to hit nerves and to put up a facade that they actually care about vets, in order to get people on their side. Most Republican policies, historically, don't benefit the people in need. Many vets come back and are poor, and need public assistance/welfare. Who wants to cut welfare all the time? You guessed it. It's a dog and pony show. But they seriously do need the support and care. The issue deserves more attention than flag destruction does. But that's the issue in the US. Stuff over people. Smh.
