More than 3 c-sections??

So I've heard the max number of csections recommended is 3. I have 2 boys both c/s and I just had my mirena taken out to go for a 3rd, at the appt my dr. said "OK so this will be your last then". I wasn't exactly ever thinking I'd have a 4th, but is it totally impossible to have 4 c/s?

Its not impossible to have more than 3 but I am a RN who has also had 3 c-sections.  My last one was 2 months ago.  Everytime u have a c-section your risk of having certain complications increases.  Those complications are severe bleeding during the c-section or post procedure, placental abruption where the placenta seperates from the uterus and uterine rupture.  My best suggestion is that if you want to have more than 3, make sure u have your c-section at a hospital that can handle these complications.  If I were pursuing a 4th c-section I would go to a level 1 trauma center where they can handle severe complications during the birth process.

I'm a labor and delivery nurse.  Typically 3 max would be ideal.  If the Drs were so concerned then why don't they have mandatory tubals?  I have seen a mom recently have her 5th c-section.  And her youngest was 12 months old when she had her 5th c-sec!  That I was more concerned about, them being so close and not healing enough from the last c-sec.

I am not an OB but I read some interesting information about this recently.

For starters, you want 2 years between C-sections if you can because that's enough time to heal sufficiently to go through it all again.

Also, when doctors talk about "increased risk", it's not always a huge amount of increase. But as your doctor it's their job to encourage you to minimize risks. I believe that what I was reading said that the risk for a rupture went from 0.7% to 1.7% to 2.9%. Which is mathematically doubling but it's still less than 3%.

Ultimately it's your body and your decision, but it might be worth having a conversation with your doctor and asking if he thinks you are particularly at risk if you have more c-sections or if he's just basing that off of statistics. He may know something specific about your body or your health that increases the risk further. A good doctor will take a minute and explain it to you.

I tried to talk to my first OB about possibly doing a natural labor because I was curious (not adamant) and he literally ROLLED HIS EYES AT ME! I knew I didn't want that attitude making decisions for me when I was in labor, so I switched to an OB who takes time to answer my questions. She worked hard to let me try to deliver vaginally and I ended up with a c-section and she was wonderful the whole way through.

I know a woman that has had 4. She had three boys and went back for a girl. I think it's pretty found upon though because there is an increased risk of the uterus rupturing with the scar tissue being significant. But in saying that, doctors are over zealous with covering themselves, so I am sure if you were really passionate about baby number 4, it wouldn't be the end of the world. And if that Ob wasn't on board, I'd find another who I was comfortable with and willing to assist me.

I have four girls all born c section. they tried to push me to but I had discussesd it with my girls dad thay he would get fixed bc I already felt inadequate bc of the c sections..even during delivery they asked me. but it's totally possible I never had problems and I healed faster and faster with each one!

It depends on your body. Meaning how thin your uterine lining is and how much scar tissue you've built up. You can only do a VBAC with your second child, the risk of hemmoraging is too great after that.
