Would birth control save some eggs???

I am getting older and never imagined ever having kids until I met my husband 3 years ago. Now that I am facing a possible cancer scare I am wondering if getting on one of the birth controls that stop ovulation and your period would essentially save eggs to give us some time to deal with the other health problems? It is thyroid cancer which I am told is very easy to treat without radiation or chemotherapy but the doctor is suggesting not trying to conceive while going through the surgery and follow up treatment which can take 6 months to a year.  Not sure how many eggs I have left and don't want to waste any more.

No. your eggs will still age, the eggs will continue to grow and die, they just won't be released. Your best bet is to freeze them if you're that worried. How old are you? Best of luck in your treatment.

You are born with a ton of eggs. It is harder to get pregnant coming off birth control, especially as we get older. I am 38 weeks and it took me about a year. Which honestly isnt bad. I would keep those pills out of your system. And good luck to you!

I was diagnosed with low amh & AFC about 18months ago, basically short supply.
I then did a huge amount of research & reading including the very topic you're asking about. No hormonal contraception doesn't give you a backlog or build up of non ovulated eggs. Also, eggs in you deteriorate in quality over time. In fact, egg quality is more important than quantity.
I strongly advise discussing fertility preservation with your doctor and a specialist to see what your options are.

No, it wouldn't make a difference. As you get older the quality of your eggs can decline, but you don't run out. Even when you hit menopause, it's not because you ran out of eggs. I don't know how old you are, but I just had my 1st at 41 without any medical intervention. I conceived at 40 after my husband's 1st round of chemo for testicular cancer which we were told would likely make him sterile at minimum temporarily. Having your thyroid removed as long as there's no chemo or radiation should not affect your chances of conception. You just have to make sure you are taking the proper dosage of thyroid hormones. When you conceive, your OB will keep a close eye on your labs and adjust your dosage if and when it's needed. If your labs are out of whack it increases the risk of miscarriage so that's probably why they want you to wait 6 mos so your meds are correct and your levels are consistent and stable. I didn't have my thyroid removed, but do have Hashimoto's.

I certainly dont want to be the barer of bad news, but i dont believe it will conserve eggs. No matter if you ovulate or not, eggs deplete every month regardless
