Second hand mattress?

I've bought a second hand Moses basket and cotbed, is it really necessary to buy new mattresses for them if I give them a good clean?

I think a mattress is on my list of things to never buy used.

A second hand mattress is less firm so increased risk of cot death / SIDS, also mould spores depending how it's been stored, also is it from a non smoking home? 
As a health professional it's the only thing I always recommend parents buy new. Cut cost on other items but not a matress x

No don't use a 2nd hand mattress ... It could have all sorts of germs and not mention smoke etc on it its not worth the risk buy new they arnt expensive x

depends on the condition of it, how old it is. I always tell people that buy second hand to think "would I want to sleep on it" and if the answer is yes then it should be fine for your baby but if you cringe at the thought then maybe getting a new one is right for you.

I asked this question the other day infact! My sons moving into a toddler bed this week hopefully, and when this baby comes we will be using his cotbed, I've just bought him a new mattress for £25 on sale 😁 which is sprung because he had just a foam one in this cotbed.

The one in his cotbed is completely covered by a non removable layer of plastic (just like the hospitals cots) but I will still be buying a new mattress. £25-£50 is worth spending for the sake of my sanity!

But there's no evidence to say mattress completely covered in plastic isn't okay to use for the next baby. If only use it if I knew exactly where it came from though

Yes , never buy a second hand cot mattress you are putting your baby at risk of cot death(sids)!!

Unless you know the person giving it as well as their hygiene/cleanliness (in terms of bed bugs, fleas from pets) I wouldn't..

I got one new from amazon for $50. I'm scared out of my mind of getting bed bugs. It costs SO much to get rid of them, it doesn't always work the first time.
