Septate Uterus

My boyfriend and I are both about to turn 40 this spring and we are planning on getting engaged this year.  So with time not on our side, we plan to see a fertility specialist as soon as wedding planning begins.
My Obgyn has already told me I have fibroids and a septate uterus so carrying a baby to term may be difficult.  Thus, why I wanna see a specialist before we conceive.  But I'd like to know what everyone's experiences are with this.  Have many of you conceived and carried to term with a septate uterus?  If you had the surgery before hand, how long after did you wait to try and conceive?  How long did it take to conceive? How painful was recovery?  How many of you had miscarriages before discovering your septate uterus?  How many miscarriages?
My periods are very heavy, long and painful. The pill helps alleviate it some.  But I'm looking forward to getting through this difficulty, having babies, the perhaps do an ablation or something so I no longer have to deal with my period.
Please help, looking for advice from experiences with septate uterus.
