what's the difference?!

Between a birth control pill, and the mini pill. I know there is just Progesterin in the mini pill, but what's the difference from the normal bc pill? How can you tell the difference? My pill is pretty small, but the package doesn't say anything about mini pills so idk

The combination pill has estrogen and progestin in it. It works by preventing ovulation, thinning the uterine lining, and thickening the cervical mucus. These work on a 3 week on 1 week off method.
The minipill only has progestin in it and works by thickening the cervical mucus to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg. You must take a pill everyday in order for it to be effective.
The pills should have came with a pamphlet or leaflets with information. It probably won't say "minipill" but it probably will say "progestin-only pills". If it says to use protection for 48 hours if you miss a pill then it's likely a progestin-only pill. If it isn't a progestin-only pill it will say it is a combination pill or that it contains both progestin and estrogen. If you can't figure it out on your own you can just call your doctor and ask what you're taking.

The regular pill has estrogen and progesterone and has a higher efficacy rate. The box your pills come in should say. Otherwise next time you get your prescription filled ask the pharmacist
