Child Vaccinations?

I'm a stay at home mother of a 14 month old girl. I'm really on the fence about if I should continue with her vaccinations or not. I'm not a big believer in medicine myself, I try to avoid medications at all costs. When I gave birth, I even went without an epidural and iv. Are there any other mothers who aren't vaccinating their children or who are on the fence as well?? Help!

Unvaccinated children are dangers to people with suppressed immune systems, like cancer patients, transplant recipients, and the elderly. For the sake of public health, you should vaccinate. People like my father, a leukemia patient, could die from diseases your kid would recover from.

For the love of all that is holy, vaccinate your child. There has been a rash of infants (too young to receive vaccinations) who have contracted measles, which can be fatal in many cases, because some unvaccinated children were allowed into Disneyland. Do we want Polio to make a come back, too? 
Lay off the Tylenol if you must, but freaking vaccinate your child. Please, as a public freaking service to all those who cannot receive vaccinations, PLEASE vaccinate!

Here are some facts:
- Methodologically sound studies have found that there is no difference in run-of-the mill sicknesses between vaccinated and unvaccinated kids. These same studies have found a statistically and clinically significant increase in vaccine-preventable illness in unvaccinated children. Unsurprisingly, that means that vaccination prevents the diseases it is supposed to prevent and neither vaccination nor nonvaccination affect rates of other illnesses.
- In the most recent measles outbreak, the vast majority (all but 4 as of yesterday) of persons infected were not vaccinated out of a population in which about 92% of people are vaccinated.  That means that despite vaccinated people being much more likely to come in contact with measles (because there are about 9 of them to every 1 vaccinated person), they are much less likely to get sick. For you people who say vaccines don't work, I would say that this suggests otherwise.
- Measles is not a benign little infection all the time. 1 in 10,000 will develop fatal disease years later. Many will develop fatal pneumonia, particularly in poorer countries (1 in 200 or 300). Risks of allergic reaction from vaccination are 1 in 1,000,000 and deaths are too rare and to be connected with vaccines. If people stop vaccinating, the disease injury rates will skyrocket.
- VAERS is a place where anyone can report anything.  Some people have killed their kids by shaking them to death and reported it as vaccine related. You can read the autopsy findings if you want because they are also listed there. Those reports need to be taken with a grain of salt because in many cases the reaction described is based on a time association that can be anywhere from days to years.

The antivax movement is rooted in fear and appeals to people's paranoia. The truth is that many will be injured or killed by trying to develop immunity "naturally", which is why vaccines were developed in the first place.

There is a fuckton of scaremongering coming from anti-vaxxers and it is almost all total bullshit. You are putting all of us at risk by not helping to maintain herd immunity. Your kids can DIE from these diseases - do you think we'd just vaccinate against them for shits and giggles?!

Don't believe the stuff you read online. Go ask your doc what the rate of complications is for vaccines vs. the diseases they protect us from. VACCINATE YOUR GODDAMN KIDS.

I work in a family practice. It's your choice as to whether you want to vaccinate or not, but from my point of view; I would definitely recommend it.  Measles was practically eradicated from the USA because of vaccines and recently there has been an outbreak in California. Why? Because children that aren't vaccinated against it are contracting it and spreading it. Also look at all of the other diseases that have been eradicated because of vaccines. I also do not take medication or give my family medication unless it is necessary. I have a 7 year old that is vaccinated. My husband and I are also up to date on our vaccinations.  We are all very healthy and rarely get sick. We all take vitamins in addition to a healthy balanced diet. Do your research with credible information like .org websites and consult with a doc you trust; then decide for yourself.  There are millions of options out there. Good luck!

Though the idea of something going wrong because of a reaction to vaccines & not really knowing exactly what is being put into my child bothers me, I do vaccinate my child(ren). The idea of them getting something avoidable bothers me just as much.

I was vaccinated for everything, still got chickenpox. My daughters been vaccinated. I don't think one way or another makes anyone a better parent then the next. The last argument I saw on this was how bad vaccines were, now its how important they are. Stop arguing about what a total stranger does with their kid in 5 states away that you will never meet in your life.
