Methadone Detox?

Question

I am on methadone to treat my addiction. When I ask the doctors how long my baby will be in the NICU being weaned off they say it varies. Does anybody have any stories of their babies getting off of methadone? How long were your babies in the hospital for? Where there any other complications? Thank you!

They usually keep the baby for 5 days to monitor. There is a 50/50 chance of having no symptoms at all. They do a test at the hospital to see how he's doing. If he does need medication it usually less than a week breastfeeding is great and helps ease symptoms. My sister was in the same situation her daughter is 6 and absolutely perfect. I commend you for getting clean.

My niece was early, so we was in for a month. She had to be on morphine for the pain of withdrawal from the methadone. Ask about pumping for her afterwards to help wean her off. The transition won't be as bad. I wish you much luck with overcoming your addiction! 😘

I am also 25 weeks preggo and on methadone... I am constantly worrying about how long my baby will be in the hospital after she's born.. I guess it varies widely... my friend has 3 kids all on methadone, one was in the hospital for 34 days, the other 20 days and she just had a baby and she's been in there 19 so far, only at 42 mgs.... the hospital I'm going to lets the baby stay with you and they give you a room so you can stay the whole time, I'm grateful for that part I guess but it still sucks because now I have to lie to my bfs family about why she's not comming home right away because no one knows I'm on methadone besides my bf and my family
