husband got a promotion

My husband got a promotion within his company to a position that he has no experience in and may not be any good at and I don't know how to feel about it. He originally didn't receive the position because someone more qualified got it. That ended up not working out for whatever reason, and now they're offering it to my guy. They told him there are more qualified applicants but they see potential in him. With the promotion comes more money. I'm happy for him that his job see's potential in him, and more money is usually never a bad thing..however, I can't get over the fact that it makes me so anxious because I feel like he is willing to risk a good steady job that he already has, for something he may not even be any good at. And then what? He may be assed out of a job? We both have good jobs and live pretty comfortably thankfully and this just makes me so nervous. He also did not even speak to me about this before he accepted the position. No he doesn't have to ask for my permission to do things, but I feel it could have at least been discussed. I just really feel like this is too big of a "if" situation. Has anyone else ever been in this kind of situation with your spouse and if so, what happened/what did you do? :(
