Almost 8 weeks have passed but finally have time!
With all the craziness that comes with becoming a new parents, I realized after reading another ladies birth story this morning, that I had not yet posted or even wrote mine. So here we go.
I had high blood pressure though the second and third trimester of my pregnancy. The doctor knew that it was from my one kidney and kept an eye on it. I did all the tests and had extra ultrasounds to keep an eye on our babies kidney development. I past my glucose and never had more than normal (for me) protein levels in my urine. At my 35 week appointment my blood pressure was just to high and I started weekly NST's. At my 37 week appointment my doctor decided it would be best to induce me at 39 weeks to make sure our little one would be safe. We made the induction appointment and were nervous and excited at the same time. On Monday October 24th, we showed up at the hospital at 5:30 am for my induction. My doctor came in at 8 am to check me. I was 1.5 cm dialated and 80%. He gave me a cerdivil pill and had the nurses check me at 10 am. I was only 2 cm dialated but 100% so they started me on pitocin. At noon he came in to check me. I was 3cm dialated and he decided to break my water. Up until this point I hadn't felt the contractions all though they said they were strong. About 30 min after he broke my water, the real game started. I was trying for an unmedicated birth but things ended up changing. Around 3pm my contractions were 2 min apart and lasting 30-45 seconds. I could deal, although painful I was making it through. At 3:30 though they started coming faster and lasting longer. I felt like my body was under attack! The nurse came in and asked how I was feeling. I could barely breathe and she said that the contractions were very intense on the monitor and were about one minute apart and lasting 45-60 seconds at a time. They implored me to get an epidural or pain meds. I decided to try pain meds first. At 5pm they called my doc because I was in so much pain. As he was sitting talking to me my monitors started beeping. All the sudden I felt completely out of it and my blood pressure spiked to 193/98 and my baby's heart rate dropped to 80. My doctor came over to me, held my hand and said 'Elizabeth, if you were my daughter, I would never let you be in this kind of pain. I can see what these contractions look like and they are very intense for being still 3cm dialated. I can't imagine what they will become as time progresses. Please consider getting an epidural or I will have to do an emergency c-section.' I trust him with my life so I said let's do it. Within minutes they had someone there to give me the epi. After I had it, all the pain was gone. I felt so much better and so beyond tired. I finally was able to fall asleep, and only woke to vomit because of the pitocin level. At 11:30pm I woke up feeling like the most pressure was just sitting on my butt. I called the nurse in and she pulls the sheet up and goes 'oh yeah, there's the baby's head and she has tons of hair!' They called the doc and got my room and myself ready. I started pushing at 12:30 am on the 25th and gave birth to our beautiful daughter at 12:51 am October 25th 2016. She was 8 pounds 12 oz.
