birthing doula?

My Mom thinks it would be beneficial to have a birthing doula, and my husband came back from a first time dad's class yesterday, and heard the same thing. We plan on delivering at a good hospital in our city. Would getting a doula be an added benefit? Don't the nurses kind of do the same thing as the doula would, or no?

Doulas are amazing! Nurses cannot spend your entire labour with you as they have other patients. Nurses are trained medically, whereas doulas can help with a lot of drug free coping methods and ways to help keep your labour progressing. It is definitely worth looking into it and even interviewing a couple just to get a feel for what they do. I haven't even given birth and I already love having mine.

Yes 10000x yes! I had a traumatic birth with my first, got a doula with my second and oh my gosh such a beautiful special birth 😍 Not only was she an amazing support but she taught me A LOT along the way and I felt blessed to have had her there.
