Are periods important?

I got the implanon inserted over a year ago and I haven't had a period since. For a while it was awesome as I used to have really painful periods. Lately I've started to miss having periods and I even miss the cramps. I wonder if anyone else has gone through something like this?

I used to be unable to move from pain and cry for hours but now I feel like it's a cathartic experience that I need to feel normal. Like I'm carrying around something that I should have gotten rid of? It's very strange and hard to explain, does any one get me?

Is having a period emotionally important?

I haven't found it so. I feel much better not having a period. I've gone from having such heavy and painful periods to pretty much nothing and I would never go back.

Medically, periods aren't necessary for our health either, unless you are trying to get pregnant.
When not on birth control, having a period is a sign you have ovulated (9/10 times).

Otherwise, it is not medically nor emotionally necessary to have a period.
