Wedding/Bridesmaids/Groomsmen colors

So me and my boyfriend of 4 years have been talking about getting married lately. And we all ready know the date of our wedding..our anniversary (so we don't have to change it) Our anniversary is in January (this month) and we know our colors already. We are planning and messing around with ideas just so when the time comes we (Mostly me) aren't in a rush to figure things out!

My question is that we want our colors to be a deep red and black (or a dark gray). Is black an okay color for dresses (not mine) or should we go with a real dark gray!?
