I got in trouble at work for being pregnant and asking for help?!?!

Rant.....sorry!!

So I was working in the kitchen at my job tonight. We got our truck and the kitchen person is supposed to put it away. I asked my assistant manager to help me and lift the more heavy items (maybe 10pounds or more) seeing as I have sciatica and I'm 30 weeks pregnant. Well she got all bent out of shape and was like they aren't that heavy I think you'll be fine.......and seriously they don't weigh that much!!!!! (keep in mind I don't have a note about restrictions cause my doctor says your pregnant if you ask for help they should help you it's common courtesy) So when I was like fine I'll do it but if I hurt myself I'm going home and I guess I'll just make sure I get a note at my next appointment then. She gets mad and kicks me out of the kitchen and tells me ill just have to run register and she will send someone else in to cook since I can't do the job needed. And I'm like ok seriously just cause I asked you for some help lifting a box and a couple totes???? Wtf?!?!?!

So now if I get a note a guarantee they will stick me on register all day everyday and I feel like that's discrimination cause I can do most jobs that they require I just ask for help lifting things so I don't have worse back and pelvic pain than I already do!!!

Am I over reacting?? Or does that just seem not fair to kick me out and make me do a different job because I asked for help???

It's not discrimination because you are still working and being paid.
They have the right to move you to another position if you can't perform all tasks required of you.

That being said I totally get why you are irritated. It was just a few things, and while not that heavy, being pregnant sucks and lifting anything while pregnant is even worse.

Having been a manager I see both sides to the story. Try not to stress too much mama! Eat

They actually have a right to move you to a different spot that fits your restrictions if it's available, they just can't fire you. It's not discrimination it actually accommodating your restrictions on ability to work.

Your whole title is misleading. You absolutely did not get in "trouble" for being pregnant nor for asking for help. If you can't perform all the duties required in a certain position, they have the right to move you. I don't think I'd want to be interrupted from my work to do your work because you're asking for help....especially if it happens more than once, so again I don't think they did anything wrong. You can't always get your way at work.

It sounds like they over reacted a bit when you asked for help, but if you brought a note saying you can't perform all of the duties required for that position (including lifting anything), then you shouldn't be surprised that they put you in a different one. Be happy that they have something that you can do. :-) You're almost there. Your baby will join you in this wonderful world and once you're done with maternity leave, you can go back to your normal job. :-) Congrats on your baby.

That wasn't the way she should have talked to you she should have helped you and later on talked to you that it might be a inconvenience having you cooking especially if you can't get help you can get hurt that being on the register would probably be easier on you, I use to work for retail and every time someone got past 30 weeks they usually put them as cashiers or in the fitting rooms because we where required to lift a lot of heavy stuff on the floor I don't see it as discrimination I see it as looking out for someone but not the way she approached it
