help!! what do I use when I don't have a pad or tampon??

So I was in class today and I suddenly got my period. I have an irregular cycle which is really annoying because I don't know when it's coming. I went to the bathroom and saw that a little blood had gotten on my pants. It wasn't much, so I was able to cover it with my long shirt, but it was really embarrassing, even if no one saw. I didn't have a pad with me so I rolled up a bunch of toilet paper. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for this situation? Is there anything else I can do beside roll up some toilet paper as a makeshift pad?? Thanks!!
