being an adult at the doctors

I tried to be funny with my title but I'm seventeen, I've recently moved out and now I book all my own appointments and such, I'm thinking about going to my doctor for a checkup? Get a Pap smear, sti check and such, also, I believe if I go to my doctor for birth control it'll be covered by my health insurance, not like $8 a month is much 😂. I'm just wondering if this is an appropriate age to begin seeing my doctor on a yearly? basis. My family doesn't really go to the doctor because my mother was a nurse, I'm not exactly sure what to say when I call the doctors office. Could someone give me some advice?
