Sleep training...so nervous!

Michelle

It's time to sleep train my 9 month old. The past few weeks have been MISERABLE! First we nursed to sleep then I put her down asleep. But for the past few weeks she quits nursing before she's asleep and I rock her and put her down....and she wakes immediately. So after an hour or so I finally get her to sleep for her to then an hour or so later she's screaming and we are back rocking again. Then we're asleep till about 3 and every hour till we get up for the day at 6. Or until I lay down with her on the sofa.

So tonight it begins. I wanted to start on a weekend so if everyone else lost sleep work/school wouldn't be affected. I'm also expecting for it to be about a week or so and picked a time that we could have a CONSISTENT bedtime.

I found a method that I feel comfortable with that includes aconsistent bedtime routines. I will be putting her down awake at bedtime and I'll sit beside her for 10 min then leave for 10 minutes. Then I'll come back and sit beside her trying not to touch though I have a feeling I will have to lay her down again because she tends to stand in her crib. Then I'll leave for 25 minutes and come back, etc. I'll increase my time away each time. And the goal is over the week the time needed to fall asleep will decrease!

I'm hoping that she'll find a comfort item....I'm putting a tank top of mine that I wore yesterday in her crib, a blanket and a small stuffed animal. I'll update with our progress. I'm super nervous but it can't be worse then what we've been dealing with!
