Should I do it? (Tattoo)

So I am having my 18th birthday on Wednesday, and I have been wanting to get a tattoo for a long while now, but haven't been able to because of the age thing. 
My tattoo idea is something that means a lot to me, and something I wouldn't regret. It would be something that my dad wrote to me, it would be in his handwriting. It would be in a place that would be hidden, right underneath my right shoulder blade, in the bra-strap area. I think that it would be more for me than for anyone else? It would be nice, just because my father passed away, to always have something that reminds me of him always on me. 
The thing is that I talked to my mom about it, and she told me it was pointless because it would be hidden. She also says that I should wait a year. 
What are your guys' opinions? I am kinda of art on getting it on my birhday, but am very open to suggestions! What do you guys think?

My first tattoo isn,t that noticeable unless I turn my arm a certain way, but I'm okay with it because it has a lot of meaning to me. Do what makes you happy! Get that tattoo.

Do what you sound like you want to do. Wheatger you want it hidden or not. Do what feels right to you.

I think if it means that much to you you should get it somewhere you could see it everyday. Why have it where only a few could see it. But also have it in a less likely to be seen area. Maybe upper thigh or something :)

How long have you been thinking about getting this particular tattoo? I only have one tattoo and I love it! Before I got it though, I printed out a picture of it and put it somewhere I'd see it all the time. If you get tired of seeing it, or want to change it then you know how you really feel about it. I did it for 6 months, but I've heard other people did it for a year.
