Don't work don't eat?*dogs**

Question

Me and my SO Like taking polar pop runs after a long day... yesterday I took my dog with us and waited outside while he got us a drink and candy. As he was in there another man walked in and was waiting behind him... the girls behind the counter were talking about how adorable my dog was and how sweet he looked! The man then stepped in and said he has working dogs and not little shit eaters like that... he then proceeded to say that if his dogs don't work then they don't eat. Do you agree with that statement? I'm still mad he called my dog that.. 😒

No not cool. Not every dog is a working breed nor do they need to work. Pets are family not slaves and should be treated as such. It's like telling a child if they didn't do chores they don't eat. Just crule and unnecessary.

As someone with working dogs, I've heard that sentiment a lot. I don't agree with it though. My dogs are my family regardless, and will always eat. Sounds like he was just a spiteful bastard who doesn't appreciate his animals. Your dog is cute, and seems sweet from the picture you posted.

I've heard macho type guys say something similar to cover up their true feelings for their dogs. So maybe he wasn't serious about it?

This particular man was a *huge* dick to you, and I'm sorry about that. Some people do only keep animals around that can work somehow.

To a degree it's sometimes understandable. Someone might need a cat or small dog to catch pests, someone might need a dog that can hunt with their owners, another needs a disability service dog, etc. Sometimes you end up with people refusing to feed the pet because they weren't helpful that day, as if it were a child going to bed without dinner. You see it often with cats because the idea is if you don't feed a cat then it will learn to hunt your pests. Not allways true of course. There's also more cruelty that can come out of this way of thinking than starvation...

God knows how this jerk treats his animals...

I would never do that. Regardless of the animal "working" or not. They are living beings that like us need food to live.

I would have likely said something about animal abuse and calling the local authorities about it.

No dog or any other animal for that matter are here for our benefit. I think it's okay to have working dogs, they actually enjoy it. But saying they can't eat if they don't work is absolute bullshit. I would have kicked him in his balls if 1) he talked shit about my dogs and 2) basically admitted to animal abuse. 
He doesn't deserve to have dogs if he treats them that horribly.

If he abuses his dogs and makes comments like that to strangers, his opinion isn't worth getting angry about. Hopefully someone who knows him will report the animal abuse to the proper authority.

Okay, I'm a little biased becauae I'm an avid animal lover. I have two GSDs, and they are my children! Even if they were to tear the house apart, I would still feed them! 
Next time that guy decides to take a sick day or doesn't do any work, someone should starve him. Butthole.
