How long to wait before going on a honeymoon?

We'll be honeymooning in Italy, spring of 2018. We're torn between wedding this October and asking for gift cards for our honeymoon.. or wedding right before.

We're not the type to ask for a gift type but the families are very genourous and asking what we want

We waited about 3 months after our wedding, but we took a long weekend/mini-moon immediately after our wedding. Do what's best for you!

We eloped one February (didn't tell anyone), and then had our 'honeymoon' 6 months later. We couldn't take time off when we got married, so we knew we would travel later on. Still wanted to get married when we did; it wasn't a big deal to us when we traveled.

We are getting married October 6th 2018 and doing our honeymoon October 27th 2018 (only because we are doing a cruise and it's hard to find one with the perfect timing) Personally I like the idea of the honeymoon right after the wedding. A year later is more like just a vacation in my mind. And most likely you'll get plenty of money at your wedding that you can or towards you honeymoon right away if it's a money concern.  Also if you push the wedding off for another year to do it before the honeymoon you have more time to save for it all.
