Started insulin and not what I expected

I can't believe the doc didn't give me instructions, rushed me and started me on a very important med that can be life threatening if not done right. Got a brief description from the pharmacist but not too helpful. I started it last night and woke up and my sugar fasting was the highest it's ever been at 187 so I took it again for my morning dose so not I'm scared how this will work. I already am looking at being induced in two weeks @ 37 weeks so this is adding more stress. Anyone with some tips or advice it would be very helpful because I am not feeling any support medical wise right now. And I've never had to take insulin and all this other medicine too. :(
