Marriage

Ive been with my bf for over a year and a half now. We both know we want a future with each other. We've talked about starting a family and we are buying a house together in the next year so we know its serious. Ive known since the beginning my bf doesnt really believe in the whole marriage thing. He doesnt think we need a piece of paper to tell us what we have etc. And for the most part i agree we dont. But is it so bad that i dont want to be in my mid 30s and say this is my bf we've been together over 10 years? I told him tonight we are in a relationship and we should be able to compromise. So he said in a few years we can get engaged and we will just tell people that we arent in a rush to get married..does that seem fair? I told him i just wanted to know that there is an option to get married in the future even if we never do. Btw im 24 and hes 25.
