AF and flow? Sorry if TMI

AF showed up last Tuesday 1/14- two days late, which very rarely happens, I am usually 28 days to the day. At first I thought it was implantation bleeding because it was very light and brownish for two days. Day 3 a little heavier and red but still not a lot. Day 4 heavier still and red, day 5 I had a lot of cramping and I just felt sore down there almost all day long. Today is day 6 and my flow is the heaviest it has been the whole time. I use the softcups so I can't gauge by pads or tampons but this am there was a lot of blood and clots :/ My flow never used to be like this. Usually day 3 was heaviest then spotting or very light for the next several days.  Does this happen w anyone else or is this something I should specifically bring up? We have been TTC for over 3 yrs. the only other time this happened was 2 years ago and AF was 3 wks late and I took a test and got a faint pos line. Started having cramping and went to the dr when I tested again and still faint line. They did a test and it was neg. she said it was probably an early mc since the line was there when I tested at home but gone by the time I got in (2 days after cramping was the soonest I could get in). I didn't even test this time because I didn't want to get my hopes up. I was going to wait a week after buy obviously not testing now.
