Would you have babies with a psychopath?

My father in law is a borderline psychopath with schizophrenia what was my mother in law thinking? Thank god my hubby was lucky enough not to have any mental illnesses. Could this be passed to our future children though?

This is like asking "would you reproduce with a diabetic?"
Mental illness is just that: an illness. Something that can be treated, worked with, prevented, and, in some cases, cured. Yes, it's a bit harder to understand because there's often no physical symptoms, but that doesn't mean that the person is damaged beyond repair, and it definitely doesn't mean that they're not worth having a normal life. 
Stop stereotyping.

There's a lot of research that shows a genetic link with mental illness. But it's far from a guarantee.

As for why she chose to, maybe he didn't show symptoms until later in life, maybe she simply didn't care. Mental illness doesn't instantly make you unfit to be a parent.

My sister is bi-polar, my father in law is manic depressive, my mother is an alcoholic (all of which are suspected of being hereditary). None of these things mean that I shouldn't have kids, it just means these issues run I'm their family tree, just like cancer or diabetes... They'll be aware of it, and if they suffer from the same issues we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

My husbands a registered sociopath. I'm 100% unafraid of him. You have to be their world, it seems. A psychopath is a different ball game, I wouldn't reproduce with that cookie..

Severe and persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia seem to have a genetic link. Children of individuals with such diagnoses have a higher percentage of these diagnosed as well.

I think it really depends on the situation. Like is he a person who has his illness managed by medication? Is it something that's constantly there? Or does his illness come in waves as in you can see him struggling for weeks before he actually has a episode. I think if his illness is managed and you can see a episode coming for weeks before it happens then I would feel safe leaving them for a half hour here and there while he was good. If the person was liable to have an episode at any time at all  then no I wouldn't risk it
