After birth?

Coworker was talking about her birth story the other day and how she threw a fit because they tried to place the baby on her bare chest immediately after birth and she was totally grossed out by it. From everyone's personal experience do they typically take the baby to get vitals and clean up real quick then give it to you or let you get skin to skin time immediately? Or do you have to request one way or the other? Personally I would be fine with either, I think she overreacted. But I would want them to focus on checking to make sure she is okay first.
