curious about inbetween period bleeding?

So ive been having inbetween periods period. During my actual period, i'll have severe cramps and pain so bad i cant go to work. Then after the period a week later i'll have 3-4 days of intense bleeding again with mucus. It'll be dark brown with a weird odor on the first day. (I was sure thats old blood) but on day 2-4 it becomes bright red then it stops. Then a week later i get light bleeding for ovulating then a couple days after i'll get my ACTUAL period. Its been going on for about 3 years. Drives me NUTSSSS

2 years ago i was on bc which helped but i stopped taking it due to dealing with the loss of my mom to cancer. The pill also made me feel uncomfortable (but i couldnt tell if it was really the pill or the family thing) I didnt feel like doing anything let alone keep remembering to take my pills.

After i got off i gained about 10 lbs. (again no idea if it was stress of family or pill prob a mix??) it took a whole year for me to START losing weight now.

I checked with my obgyn back then, and he said i have slight PCOS and its Nothing too worry about. im thinking about going on the pill again but:

1. I dont wanna lose the progress i JUST made to coming back to normal weight (am i just being paranoid?)

2. Im worried about feeling apathetic to everything and "dead" again (which was the uncomfortable feeling previously mentioned. I didnt want sex, didnt want to talk to my bf, everything we tried didnt turn me on...)

Thoughts?

Also does ANYBODY know what that inbetween bleeding with mucus is? I dont think its old blood anymore. Is it just my lining shedding early cause of PCOS ???
