spotting...

So I had some light spotting that was brown with no cramps last week and the nurse at my ob said to just watch it and if I had cramps or it went red to let them know but it could be very normal in early pregnancy. Today I had some red in it, it was after a bm but was more than any other time so I called again and they said if I cramp or it gets heavier to go to the er. Has anyone else had this problem? They keep telling me it could be normal but I'm so worried that it isn't normal.  Just looking for others stories to know what to think. The spotting has again stopped (it never lasts to long just a few times a day if that) so I'm at a loss of what to do/ think.
