Delayed treatment??Malpractice???
So I noticed low amounts of (3.53) red blood cells and hemoglobin(10.9) and hemocrit(32.3) counts on my labs since the second week of janurary I didn't have any idea about this tell I actually LOOKED at the lab report that they NEVER talk to me about or show me.And today I went in and told them how I been feeling and what I been craving which was ice all the time which is called pica . She told me I was anemic and needed iron pills .Note that she didn't not say anything at all what so ever until I approached the subject since she seemed like she had somewhere to be.She said I can take them over the counter or have them prescribed. And I was being rushed again by her because she seemed like she wanted to leave and didn't care much to spend an adequate amount of time with me or address my concerns. And afterwords she rushed me out of the patient room to get some blood work done and I literally had to stop her in her tracks saying I wasn't finished because I had more questions .I needed a doctors note because my job doesn't care much for pregnant women and won't even care to give me a actual break unless I have a doctors note is given (I know they don't have to accommodate me but come on I'm growing a human it takes work !)So I had to stop her for that and the doctor asked said if I wanted to have a note saying that I can't work anymore and I said no I needed one a doctors note for more breaks to be able to have my snacks and water for my needy growing baby . (I still plan on working until about 32-34 weeks)
And now I look back at it and I'm upset that I had to find out MYSELF I was anemic and google what those low counts meant and take time to actually be the one to approach the doctor instead of vice versa because I never got a call about this and it has been over a month. This could have been addressed sooner and I could have gotten my iron pills sooner rather than later.I want the best possible start for my baby and this is just sad.A doctor not caring to talk about a patients anemic state when a patient could be recieiving proper care and my baby could avoid possible birth defects. So I am 30 weeks and had that blood withdrawal over a month ago and I know they get test results with 2 weeks and supposably say they will call if there is anything abnormal in the test results other wise I won't hear anything.
How is being anemic not abnormal?!Isnt that improper care? Waiting well over 3 weeks and not even once approaching a patient about it or care to make me aware about my anemic state? I had to look at the labs on a website because I never get a physical lab work paper in my hand I thought everything was okay .Or that phone call they claim to make when something is abnormal. She literally told me my baby is perfect when she did an ultrasound and I actually waited to see if she would tell me I was anemic but never did.Is this considered malpractice ???What do you ladies think?
Because being anemic while pregnant is definitely something I don't think should be ignored epscially when growing a baby that should last a life time!! If anything thing it should be addressed immediately .Im 30 weeks and I need to know and be aware of what I could be doing so baby could be cooking better or needs help from supplements like the iron pills I'm now prescribed)
