wasting formula?

Question about how long formula can last... on the tub it typically says discard after an hour if baby doesn't finish it but how true is it? Do you throw out formula in an hour or two if baby doesn't finish it? Or refrigerate it til the next feeding?

I sometimes mix a batch in the morning (dr browns formula pitcher) and store for 24hrs in the fridge. I'll do about 20 ounces, that way I can use a few ounces at a time with less tossing.  (I mix the night feedings so I don't have to deal with warming it up. ) if I make a bottle and he only drinks like half an ounce,  I'll throw it in the fridge.  If he drinks 4 out of 5 ounces,  I toss.  Once mixed mine can stay out 2hrs before needing to be eaten or put in fridge.

I throw it out. You can premix it in a bigger container and store it for 24 hours. But once it's been warmed and baby's mouth on it, it's bad. So I start with the smaller amount my baby takes and give her more if she's still hungry- quick to do if it's already mixed.

I throw out any unfinished formula about an hour after the baby first drank from the bottle. I wouldn't save it for the next feed.  You might get away with it, but equally there may be a build up of bacteria that makes your baby sick. I don't think the cost saving is worth the risk.

If my son doesn't finish a bottle I will keep it for the two hours like it says but if there's 2 oz or less I'll just throw it right out.
