Nursing taking a long time

Emily

Does anyone else's baby take a long time to breastfeed?

I've read they it can be normal and to just let baby take his time as needed, but also have read that they usually become more efficient by now (my son is 12 weeks).

My little guy takes usually an hour to nurse (sometimes more). I look for cues that he's done, and when it seems like he has stopped sucking/swallowing, I try to pull him off, but he'll start actively sucking again. I feel like because he takes so long, it then sets us back on getting him good awake time and good naps, since we are then feeding again. He is a pretty fussy guy and I wonder if a lot of it has to do with not getting adequate naps. He's been gaining weight perfectly and having frequent wet/dirty diapers so I know he's getting enough milk. I'm going to discuss with the pediatrician at our 3 month appt, but am looking for others they may have similar experiences.

Thank you for any info/input in advance!
