Cultural beliefs: Lunar eclipse

Tonight there's suppose to be a lunar eclipse. My family is Mexican and they have always believed to but one or 2 saftey pins near your belly button to prevent birth defects from the eclipse. I know  it's a culture thing. But  I would  rather tell you guys and you do with it what you believe than not tell  you at all.
