Interreligious Relationships
I'm 24 weeks pregnant and this {issue} is becoming more and more pressing..
I'm Baptist and my fiancé is Lutheran..while neither one of us agree completely with our own religions, there are things you just can't shake after 20+ years of growing up in one church.
Lutherans baptize their children VERY shortly after they are born whereas Baptists wait until the child is old enough to understand God, comes forth to be saved, and then the child is baptized as a proclamation of their acceptance of God.
We have {sort of} come to the decision that we'll do a "dedication" when Little Miss is born {something practiced in many religions--basically just proclaiming that you are going to raise the child in a God-fearing home} and then let her be baptized when she's ready. At least that's the plan for now.
HOWEVER, my struggle comes with my in-laws..they're very much for baby baptizing and I'm worried that they'll change his mind. We both sat down and talked and this was the decision we came to as a couple {after a long discussion about our views} but I can just see him being broken down more and more every time his grandmother says anything.
So I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this baptize/don't baptize issue and what you did..?
