is my Dr. doing his job?

Question

I see so many women saying "My Dr. says I'm too small for  vaginal birth" or "my cervix is narrow" "my baby weighs approx. this much at so and so weeks"

My Dr. has never given me a hint on what my babe weighs. Has never mentioned my birth plan. Has never expressed any concern for my size and delivering a baby, although everyone I talk to seems to think I'm super small framed and will have a tough time delivering. 
He's never mentioned whether I should do just fine or anything! 
We haven't seen our girl since our anatomy scan... and he doesn't seem interested in figuring out how big she is, or anything.

I know I'm just growing impatient... and I would like a guesstimate on how big she may be & how it may potentially go for me, but he doesn't offer much. He's been doing this for 25 years so he's seen and heard it all .... i am afraid if I even ask, hell brush it off. 😑

They typically won't start doing all that until 36 weeks. I'm 31 and haven't heard anything like that from my DR either.

I'm 35 weeks and haven't seen my baby since 20w at the anatomy scan. I don't think I'll see baby again. But, my midwife does check my fundal height at every monthly appointment. Have you had no measuring at all?

Fwiw, I have been surprised by how infrequent/simple my appointments have been. I go once a month since 22w and they check urine, blood pressure, occasionally iron levels, and measure heartbeat and fundal height. However, if you're feeling okay and don't have any risk signs, there really isn't much more that's necessary

The majority of the claims I've seen on here of knowing how big the baby is end up being wrong. Many people have a C-section due to large babies, and they come out 6-7 pounds. Near the very end of your pregnancy you can ask him to estimate size by feeling through your belly but it's an educated guess at best and I wouldn't base my birth plan on it. If your labor is not progressing normally they will assess the situation. Perhaps he should ask about your birth plan but for the most part you should do your own research.

When I was pregnant my doctor never told me the baby's weight either or talked about my birth plan. I also didn't have a scan after 19 weeks, there was no need. Honestly, the doctor will tell you when/if he has concerns.

It's normal to want to know all these things, especially as a FTM. in a normal pregnancy, though, you might not get another ultrasound. Plus, weight estimations by ultrasound are SO notoriously inaccurate. You can google average weight for how many weeks you are and that would be as good as any guess your doctor can give you. They told me my first would be 7lbs and she was born 9lbs, so I don't even want to know their guesses this time. And if he hasn't said anything about you potentially having trouble delivering vaginally, then don't stress. Honestly, you really don't know how that will go until you're in labor anyways. Your hips could widen significantly over the next few weeks, you never know. If it's really bugging you, just ask! If he'd been doing it that long, he should be used to these questions. Just try not to stress, mama! It sounds like you're doing a lot of worrying for what may be no reason at all.
