is he too controlling?

I've been going out with this guy for the past 2 or so months. Before we started dating we were friends and he was really chill and went out drinking and partying and such. But as soon we started dating he stopped doing such things and doesn't want me to do it as well. He's also rather protective. Example: I told him I wanted to start skateboarding, he said he doesn't want me doing that because he doesn't want me hurting myself, which I understand. Is he being a little to much is my question?
