Is this normal cluster feeding?

So I'm a FTM in need of some help.

Tonight/morning is our first one home with our little guy. He appears to be cluster feeding- he wants to nurse constant! Since about 11pm, I willl nurse him for around 40 minutes total, he will rest for 10-20 minutes, then he seems ready to go again. He makes rooting gestures and fusses. He slept kind of between 4-5am, but half-woke and made little noises and sucking sounds every 10 mins or so.

It's now 5:30am and I have yet to sleep since coming home from the hospital. I guess I just want to know if this is what cluster feeding is like. He's half asleep on my breast most of the time. Please advise!

Yes. They are pretty much drip fed when they are inside you and all this feeding will make your body produce milk. Also the time between feeds is the start of the feed to the start of the next week, not the end of the first feed. So he's feeding every hour which is normal.

Yes! I think I had 2-3 hours sleep a night for the first 8 weeks. He loved to feed through the night and then sleep 6am to around 9am. Then it got better! Formula fed babies tend to sleep longer as you know how much they've had and it fills there tummy. It's not as simple as that with breastfeeding. You will get there. Your supply will properly come in and baby will get more efficient at feeding. Best of luck.

He is stimulating your milk to come in. I've given an ounce of formula in that situation after being up nursing that long. Just to get a nap. If you are truly exhausted you might consider it for your sanity

It was completely normal with my first.  He wants you and nursing is comforting to him. It also is his way of getting your milk to come in and supply up.  I went through these cluster feeds for several weeks. Stay strong-it can be exhausting and feel like it never end but when I look back, it was really only a short time!

I would call it normal. That first week home is hard, but he just wants you close. Think about the crazy stress and transition he's just had. You are all he knows right now. Give him some skin to skin and cuddles. Let him sleep on your chest if nothing else. (If you're nervous let someone check on you and him every few minutes). You only get these tiny baby moments once, enjoy every second.

Ugh that first night home was rough for us ... I was unaware that she would eat all night and I called my mom in the morning crying. Its totally normal, my baby fed constantly while awake for the first month. I thought I'd go crazy, now I miss it, I miss her wanting me like that.
