breast pump rental ??

Has anyone ever rented a breast pump instead of purchasing?? I just found out my insurance won't cover the cost of a breast pump and I saw that my hospital will rent them at $80 a month. This is my 2nd baby and with my 1st I was unable to breast feed but was really hoping to pump this time. What are your thoughts ladies??

I would just buy a manual pump for $20, and if you continue to breastfeed and pump buy yourself an electric one. $80 a month won't save you anything after 2-3 months.

I have not, but $80 a month seems very high especially if you plan on pumping for a while. You can buy them cheaper if you plan on pumping for more then four months.

Check the health dept or wic, when I did parenting classes a lady from them mentioned they rent them for $40 flat fee as long as you need

Depending on where you live (if you live in the states) try to get on wic. They allow you to borrow a pump for free or give them to you for free if you receive benefits.

Check with your insurance again! If not, try to borrow from a friend (buy new accessories) or just buy a new double pump. Worth the investment! After 3 months renting, you could own.

I feel like $80 a month is a little steep... Can't you get manual ones for like $40? I know very little about breastfeeding because I'm a first time Mom and haven't started reading yet. Maybe manual pumping is super annoying? I'm not sure what your financial situation is but I'd rather fork over $300 for an electric pump if I planned to breastfeed longer than 3 months because otherwise you end up just paying way more. This is probably not helpful at all - sorry! I'm interested in hearing what others have to say.
